About Lebe's Leaves
I made these pictures over about two and a half years during a time of no distractions. That time had followed some years when I had not been photographing as I was preparing intensely for a show at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Immediately after that opening I became very ill and was hospitalized. It was while recovering, just before the Covid lockdowns began, that I started the work that would become Lebe’s Leaves. They were very quiet and isolated years for Jack and myself who had already, before Covid, thought of ourselves as living a reclusive life.
The pictures were all made in my studio with leaves I had been collecting around our house and on my walks over several years.
The work divides into 6 or 7 groups. Three are shown here, the others are in production and might still take me a year of two to complete.
The "Studio Window" group were all made in a South facing window, mostly at sunrise and during the early morning, a few in the late afternoon.
